<image:caption>Everyone needs help now and then and it can feel really scary to ask for it, but the alternative is to remain isolated and alone. Whether it’s you’re feeling anxious or depressed, have difficult issues to navigate or coping with a bereavement, speaking to a therapist can be an opportunity to clear your mind and find a way forward. It gives you the chance to talk about things that have been bottled up which family or friends may find difficult to hear. I offer a safe and non-judgmental space to give you the confidence to talk about what is worrying you. Reflecting on your experiences can really help you make effective changes so your life feels more manageable and fulfilling. It’s not about opening old wounds, but actually about healing them.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - About Roz</image:title>
<image:caption>I have been working in the mental health and community support field for over twenty years after graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic & Humanistic Therapy (BACP Accredited). I am an Accredited Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society. I work behind the scenes as a therapist on ITV's This Morning programme and I have spent many years as a bereavement counsellor, supporting people through the loss of loved ones. Until recently I worked for the University of Northampton as a student counsellor. I worked as a therapeutic manager for the charity Maytree, a residential sanctuary in North London for people in suicidal crisis. I have a great deal of experience working with people at the peak of their despair and hopelessness. Over the past eighteen years I have worked extensively as a mediator with both young people and their parents, in communities, the workplace and for schools at Mediation Herts. I also led nationwide school talks and workshops in sexual health, relationships, loss and grief with a Harley Street practice. I hold a BSc in Psychology and Mathematics from the University of London and have lectured in Counselling Skills at Milton Keynes College.</image:caption>

<image:title>Why counselling - Counselling is very much a two way relationship and it’s important to make a strong connection.</image:title>
<image:caption>I think of it as sharing part of your journey, walking beside you for a moment in time, in the hope it will enable you to feel safe and held during your difficult moments, and give you the internal strength to continue along the way.</image:caption>

<image:title>The way I work - Humanistic theory</image:title>
<image:caption>The humanistic approach believes individuals have within themselves vast resources for self-understanding and an innate tendency to develop towards their full potential. This can inevitably be blocked or distorted by difficult life experiences. The core conditions of humanistic therapy are “empathy”, “unconditional positive regard” and “congruence” (authenticity). The therapist offers genuine warmth and acceptance so the individual can feel safe enough to explore difficult aspects of their life and helps develop better self-understanding. The therapist and client are equal partners, the therapist merely facilitates the client to engage safely in self-exploration to find their own solutions and move towards personal growth and self-actualization.</image:caption>

<image:title>The way I work - Psychodynamic theory</image:title>
<image:caption>Psychodynamic theory stresses the importance of past experience in shaping our current way of being and explains personality. Feelings can be held in the unconscious mind because they are too painful to face and we come up with defences to protect us from them. These defences can go wrong and cause more harm than good. Therapy aims to raise these feelings into our consciousness so we understand where they have come from and this enables us to examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise and deal with them so they become less painful. Psychodynamic therapy uses the therapeutic relationship to gain insight into relationship patterns that have evolved since childhood. The task of the therapist is to facilitate the client’s insight by linking the past and present through the method of interpretation of the client’s communication.</image:caption>
